Dear Lean Colleagues.
Would you please share ideas how to follow the Shingo Prize model? As I mentioned in a previous BLOG I work in a Plastic Company that start the Lean Journey.
regards

Luis,
I don't know that 'model' would be the correct word in regards to the Shingo Prize. First and foremeost I would abosolutely support the pursuance of the Prize - when your orginization has achieved a Process Stability level. Three years of sustained improvement that can be directly ties to your Lean Vision is a heavy component in achieving the SP.
The Vision at the top needs to be clearly defined and driven throughout the entire organization. It is just as important that a Press Operator understand the goals and applications as it is for the General Manager.
I have been a 'Shadow" at two of our plants that won the SP. My job during the audit was to follow one Auditor and point them in the direction to find what they were looking for. I can tell you that they dig deep. They don't just want to know that you have Value Stream Maps - they want to know that they are living documents (updated regularly), that the operators can explain what is going on with them, and that the orginization is using them to drive progress. This is just one category.
Now if you are applying to get a sense of where you stand then it is great for that. The audit shows you where you are in most categories. Matter of fact I would say that this was more important than actually winning it.

I have a potential client who is interested in using the Shingo Prize model as an assessment guide for their lean implementation. I have reviewed the Shingo Prize information on-line, but wondered if anyone has a more detailed checklist or list of assessment questions that are modeled after the Shingo Prize.
Thanks

Hello Kevin:
Did you download the Shingo Model and Guidelines? It's about a 40-page pdf document, so hopefully that will give you the detail you need. It is available on the Shingo Prize site for free.
