Recently my task was to create a "current value stream map". I received following information: inventory between the operations, part transition / waiting time, cycle time, set time and customer demand per month. I wasn't sure if I have to add part transition / waiting time to inventory lead times to get the total lead time. According to Syed Hossain:

"The part transition time is the extra time it waits between operations. Non value added time was calculated by adding the inventory lead times, waiting/part transition time and changeover/setup time for each process."

If you disagree with this explanation you can reply.

Please note that the purpose of this message was to clarify one essential topic needed for some students to pass a certain module at a university. Furthermore by explaining what "Part transition / waiting time" is I wanted people not to ask Syed Hossain about this topic because it might be inappropriate.

I'd be more concerned with the statement that 'you received following information'. Did you go and look or where you supplied with this information by a third party?

Lead time is defined as the dtime it takes from customer order of a product or service to delivery of that product or service. So, ANYTHING that takes place in this process must be included in your lead time.
