Hello Everyone,
Im looking to significantly improve the quality of the visual management systems we currently employ within our organisation. Im particular I want to create a 5s visual management area, as i have conducted some simple training in the basic steps. Has anyone got any examples of the type of items they include on thier boards or even better some templates i can use and tailor to our specific needs.
Much appreciated
Richard

Hi Richard,

There are many different ways to implement visual controls and metrics.

An important simple early step is to determine visual color standards. I've attached what we've used for clients for years.

I've also seen a method of tracking improvement ideas whereby each staff member gets a check off with every new idea. The goal is for them to get 10 check offs. The first one there gets a public congratulations. This "game" is posted on a white board with each members face. Visual and fun.

Creating before and after pictures and the team members involved is also very helpful.

All of this information should be placed in one central location focused on 5S improvements.

I've also attached an Audit form I found on the web.

I hope some of this has been helpful. Feel free to contact me directly at david.visco@the5sstore.com

Take care

Hello Richard,

In my opinion a 5S management area is to track the status on the 5S implementation and results over time. A place where people can get excited over 5S. The items I would suggest to include in a 5S management area are grouped around the following things:

1) Vision & Mission of 5S
a. Why we do 5S?
b. What is the ultimate goal of the 5S implementation? What do we strive for?
c. What do we expect from each other working in a 5S environment?

2) Audit results
a. The results of last audit of all departments together
b. The specific department results over time (to show improvements)
c. If wanted, a competition between the different departments during the year (to create a reward for the effort done during the year).

3) Areas of 5S and their responsible line management. It's their responsibility on the actual status and progress.

4) The 5S coordinators per area, so other people know who to contact in case of question and/or opportunities

5) History and achievements log. Visually depicting 5S results for knowledge sharing and record tracking

The specific how and what depends on your companies culture, believes and attitude towards 5S, that you know the best.

Good luck! Please contact me if you would like to know more.

My Ideas for you would be:
Banners
Signs
Floor Marking
5S Red Tags
Posters

In a 5s area setup for management you can use most of what I have listed. But start with the basics and move up from there.
