Hello, I'm working with an imaging department on some lean implementation and I have one group that is really not encouraged to participate in lean activities. They can not see how lean can help them.
Question: Does anyone have any lean case studies for Nuclear Medicine departments or Diagnositic Imaging / Radiology in general?

Hello Benny,
Yes, I have done a great deal with this, a prior client of mine was a mobile imaging company, a long story but they went broke, due to many of the problems inherent in the healthcare business...lack of clear customer, patients dealing with funny money, etc.
It would not surprize me, if, after considering their situation, that lean may not apply to them.
What is it that you feel lean would help? Why is that not of importance to them? The answer is that they just dont care...not usually the case, or they are driven by different motivators. Figure that out and likely you will get your answer.
Lean in hospitals is a very trendy thing but it is a poor applicaiton of lean as a business or produciton philosophy.
However, many of the tools of lean are very applicable for process improvements but this is a light year or two from a lean philosophy.
Be glad to discuss further, and good luck

Hi there, I used to work in GE and we did a lot with lean in radiopharmacies and radiology clinics. One key selling point is that lean flow can reduce employee exposure to radioactivity and 5S is particularly helpful. Go to isixsigma.com and use the search term radiology and there are some short articles there.
Happy to discuss
