I run outbound shipping for an Amazon warehouse and I'm trying to come up with a good andon system. So far, I haven't found anything that meets all my requirements, which are fairly specific.
Goal: Have a mechanism in each trailer for a loader to signal an andon responder when the loader discovers a defect.
Requirements:
- The andon itself needs to be either highly visible or trigger a mobile receiver. Sound isn't an option.
- Ideally, I'd like a pager-like device the andon responder can keep with him that displays which dock door needs help.
- Switches to trigger the andon need to be battery powered and work wirelessly.
- Switches need to be able to mount on conveyors going into trailers.
- Switches need multiple channels to allow identification of which of the 20+ doors needs a response.
Note: The dock area is about 150 yards long with 20 dock doors and if this works, we will likely expand the system to twice that many doors.
Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,
I've used a device which is designed for burglar alarms for a similar purpose. You can power these remote diallers from a 12v alarm battery. Rather than receiving a signal from an alarm panel, you can wire a standard machine stop button or switch which the operator presses when he needs help. The dialler will then either send a text or voice message which you can pre-programme with individual messages. If you use a dialler with multiple inputs, you could have several buttons which send different messages or contact different individuals.
As you can't hard wire the units to a phone line, it's possible to use an individual sim card with some models. You'll need to do some work to set them up.
Here is an example of a unit:

Let me know if you want a more detailed explanantion.

try this

a rotating strobe near one of your bays should draw plenty of attention and be cost effective too.
if not how many sups/doors on the dock?

Paul,
Not sure if you ever found a solution to this or not. I obviously don't check the forum real often. We have several wireless systems and keyfob remotes that are very mobile. We also have solutions that can automatically send out an email, text message and also paging systems.
Please see my website: www.industrialandons.com or shoot me an email: bob@industrialandons.com.
Thank you,
Bob Wilson
