I work in plant hire and have been tasked with training the Management team in how to see waste and implement lean.However,apart from all the usual stuff i am short of a case study where i can task the guys with leaning up a function such as field service and would apreciate any case studies you may have which i can convert into challenges for the team and enable them to use the tools they will have learned during the training.

Ian, not really a case study, but something you could get them to do easily...
Part 1, get them to call listen in your service centre for an hour and identify waste. How to on call listening here:

Part 2, run a kaizen session on the biggest issue they identify. If you need a how to on that try here:

I think working on your own issues would be the most powerful case study you can try. Hope that helps

some good pointers - i will put this together as an exercise and let you know what the outcome is.The back office always tends to be the filter for all the "cr*p" that is produced by the rest of the business .
One other tip i use is to seek out the people who are using XL spreadsheets instead of the business mainframe to hold and handle data.
