Hello to All,

Somebody can you tell me, what the difference is between the extended value stream ,value stream mapping and Material information flow analysis? Which is the better or we can mixed them?
I think that the MIFA and extended VS are the same, They show better the handling steps in the process, than the VSM.
The VSM is a "lower level" and we use for analys the" door to door" process, but MIFA means to develope the whole value stream, and understand better the suppliers, and we improve them.
What do you thinks I'm right?

Thanks,

I'm in the process of launching a lean enterprise program and we have a few people with weak English scattered throughout our teams whos native language is Russian, Philipino or Cantonese/Mandarin. I'd like to add some non-english books to our library so these few individuals don't get left behind in the learning phases. Does anyone know a good source for introductory lean books in these languages?

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

i have doubt in drawing VSM for Printing press.
As in that first cutting operation is done by batch production means 500 pages are cut in 1 cycle and after that Printing is done per pages.

So, what should i have to do in calculating cycle time for cutting like put cycle time per cutting or divide cycle time of cutting/500 pages?

Waste Walk

We conducted our first waste walk last week and I personally enjoyed the experience and we have already identified two areas that we can improve and will implement the improvements ASAP.

I have had a look at some of the threads on waste walks and found them all very helpful - the only thing I'm not too sure about is a review or follow up stage of a waste walk.

The production manager and I used a basic checklist similar to some of the spreadsheets and word documents attached in the other threads but my question concerns the follow up after a waste walk. It is counterproductive to carry out a review? Do you record improvements? If so, where? I was thinking an improvement log sheet might be the best idea and then we can post improvements at our action board.

Clearly we all have to keep senior mangement involved and clued in as to our improvements from these waste walks, any ideas/feedback would be appreciated.

Hello

I'm struggling with a value stream mapping that involve 2 processes work a big change/over time (over 2 hours)

the first one is a stamping process where we make metallic contact that are then overmolded during an injection process to make a connector.

Both processes have a change/over time of more than 2 hours that cannot be much reduced.

I can't flow the production because of those C/O time, so I guess I should calculate the minimum batch size, but I don't know how to do that?

What method should I use to calculate it?

Thanks in advance for your help and please don't Mind my English, since I'm french :)
