I'm just getting started in Value Stream Mapping. We are producer of farm tillage, and have many product families. I have read the "Learning to See" book, and do have a good grasp of what a VSM is and how it should look.
I am wondering if anyone would be interested in sharing some of thier maps with me. It would help me to see real life examples of how other people are doing it.
I will be willing to share what experiences I have had with mapping. We did have a major success with the first map that we drew.

I would love to accomodate you. Unfortunately, my company just recently got involved with Lean. It has been a rough go. The process I was assigned to has had the most success. We recently did a value stream map for that process and we had to attach it to a wall it was so big. The process was so long that the map stretched a good 20 feet along the wall! And this was AFTER a Kaizen event!

I would be happy to share with you our method - Production Flow Analysis - where we have computerised the material flow mapping to the point that cells, process modules, bottleneck points, etc. can be automatically visualized. Please email me at irani.4@osu.edu and I could mail you the white paper that I wrote on our method - Value Network Mapping - for fabrication facilties.

Depending on your software, I'd be more than happy to share some of our maps. We currently use VISO to make our maps and it is just as easy as hand sketching and much easier than say AutoCad.
Make sure when you do make your inital maps to stay at the 10,000 foot level. Once you have eliminated the wastes, redo your future state and take it to the next level. Get rid of the low hanging fruit first.

My final year project was on applying value stream mapping to a small/medioum size company. I will gladly place it here but its over 100 pages in total and many of them are graphic intensive.

Hi Geroge,
You can add attachments when you post. There is a checkbox that indicates that you want to add attachments. If you check this when you enter your title and post, it will bring you to another page that will allow you to upload attachments.
You said your document about mapping in high-variety environments was more than 100 pages. I don't recall a Forum ever having one that long, but there is a first time for everything.

Hello,
I am just getting started with lean Manufacturing at the Company I work for and eventhough I have read some literature of Value Stream Mapping I am having a hard time making it because of the variety of products we make. Process time vary from 4 to 6 days at the most and right now lead time is near to 15 days because of WIP. We work based on a production schedule and with production lots of hundreds of thousands of pieces each. I would like to know of some of your experiences and advises. Thank you very much.
Best Regards,
Clara Reyna

Please contact me at irani.4@osu.edu and I could share you prototype work and results using the Value Network Mapping Method that we have developed to enhance the traditional VSM method, but for jobshops and complex product assemblies.

Hello,
at my present work I am at the beginning of implementing LEAN, that means taking established forms of production to a newly built factory. On migrating the present state of production why not using VSM. Because I am pretty new to the job it is difficult for me at the moment to grasp the essential information and flows to form out properly.
I have read the "Lean thinking" by Womack/Jones and constantly looking for literature that covers the practical every day changes.
Can anybody help?
Thanks a lot;-))

I have begun to map the engineering process of our new product design. We have found mapping a support function is much more difficult than mapping a manufacturing process. If anyone would have any maps of a support or administrative process they would like to share, the help would be greatly appricated.
Thanks

Please send me your Value Stream Maps. I want before and after examples (Current & Future State) to show others for education and culture change. (Look what "they" did - we can do the same!) Contact keith.phillips@ltcps.com
