Every customer I have wants to ensure that any problem I have caused them is solved and does not happen again. The term for this is "prevent recurrence". It is step 7 of the 8D method. What tools and methods are people using to ensure that things-gone-wrong (TGW) and things-gone-right (TGR) are applied across the entire corporation, world-wide, in order to prevent recurrence. TGW that are an item are easy to fix, the larger problem is fixing the systemic root cause across all potential applications. Example: Customer has received parts from us that had the wrong label. How do I ensure that all labels are correct, in all locations, across 54 manufacturing locations world wide, thousands of products, and hundreds of processes? It is easy for companies that have a few locations so that there are personnel that know all the products and processes in the company and can identify all locations that it could occur, and thus track actions to prevent recurrence. It is a different problem when the company has locations across the globe and products that span the range of hydro electric power generation to automotive sensors to event management (the 2006 World Cup, for example). How are other memebers accomplishing this? I would particularely like to hear from multi-national corporations. Thank you.
