Lean Enterprise Institute Collaborates to Run Visual Management Workshop and Plant Tour

Cambridge, Mass., Feb. 15, 2012 – The nonprofit Lean Enterprise Institute (LEI) will run a lean visual thinking workshop and plant visit March 27-28, 2012, that is the result of a three-way collaboration among LEI, Rhode Island-based VIBCO Vibrators, and visual management instructor and author Gwen Galsworth.

On March 27, Galsworth, a Shingo Prize examiner and author of award-winning books on visual management, will explain the science behind creating a visual workplace and give managers the tools and blueprint needed to create a workplace that supports a lean cultural transformation.

On March 28, attendees will break into small teams to travel to VIBCO, where they will evaluate the company’s efforts at implementing a visual workplace, the next step on a long-running lean journey that began in 2004. VIBCO designs and manufacturers electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic vibrators for construction and industrial use.

What is Lean?

The terms lean manufacturing, lean production, or lean management refer to a complete business system for organizing and managing product development, operations, suppliers, customer relations, and the overall enterprise that requires less capital, material, space, time, or human effort to produce products and services with fewer defects to precise customer desires, compared with traditional modern management.

Lean Enterprise Institute

Lean Enterprise Institute, Inc., was founded in 1997 by management expert James P. Womack, Ph.D., as a nonprofit research, education, publishing, and conference company with a mission to advance lean thinking around the world. We teach courses, hold management seminars, write and publish books and workbooks, and organize public and private conferences. We use the surplus revenues from these activities to conduct research projects and support other lean initiatives such as the Lean Education Academic Network, Lean Global Network and the Healthcare Value Network.
