Production Control

The task of controlling and pacing production so that products flow smoothly and quickly to meet customer requirements.

At Toyota, the production control department evolved as the key corporate function to speed the pace of production when behind and to restrain it when ahead. This contrasts with typical mass production firms where production control is responsible for isolated tasks, such as material requirements planning and logistics.
