Kendra Leith will be a speaker at Designing the Future Summit, this June 19-20 in Traverse City, MI. See the full line-up of speakers and learn more about this great event here: https://www.lean.org/designfuture2018

In this new episode of the WLEI Podcast, Associate Director for Research Kendra Leith discusses how the work of D-Lab at MIT works with people around the world to develop and advance collaborative approaches and practical solutions to global poverty challenges. She and LEI Director of Communications Chet Marchwinski explore the ways that LPPD can be applied to problems in the developing world to tackle some of the most vexing challenges.

Some key moments from the conversation:

3:00 “We spend a lot of time building the capacity of our partners and our community members.” Talk about how D-Lab works to support the communities they are working with through various alliances.

7:00 A look at the various projects in progress in the field, including wheelchairs, water filters, pedal-powered washing machines.

11:05 Describing the four “Rs” that are watchwords for the program: rigorous, relevant, respectful, and right-sized. Kendra discusses the broader notion of right-sized lean research, which maintains rigor and is about “making things relevant and respectful.” She cites the work in scaling improved cookstove companiesas an example.
